Oh, my, what a week! I just got back from Italy a couple of days ago and am relishing the cooler temperatures here. It's still hot summer in Rome and VERY crowded with what seemed like millions of tourists. I went for the opening of a group exhibition of 12 international artists, myself among them, at the Flyer Gallery. It was great to meet with gallery head Floriano Massera and see my paintings together with the group. The show will travel to London in the winter, then on to New York next June. While in Rome, I took advantage of the opportunity and visited as many museums and other sites as I could, feasting my eyes on original works by the likes of Caravaggio, Canelleto, Bernini, Michelangelo and older Roman pieces. What an inspiring experience! We study these for years, but to see the originals - awesome is the only word I can use. Now it's back to reality with classes starting up again and only weekends reserved for my own painting instead of whole weeks. I'm excited to both see my students and work on new pieces. Here we go .... |
