Wow - it's been a while since my last post. Don't worry, I haven't disappeared, I've just been busy with my teaching job and am just getting back to the blog. Last week I finally finished another in my flowers series. I'd been struggling with it for quite a while, changing the colour and definition of the flowers several times. It just wasn't working and I put it down for a month or two. At last, I realized that the problem was that the tablecloth and flowers were conflicting - the solution was to change the flowers to red roses and all suddenly came together. I keep returning to mist rising through the forest in the interior of British Columbia. It's a truly beautiful and spiritual experience to be in the woods early in the morning as the fog drifts through the trees, sometimes obscuring, suddenly revealing, but always shifting. The similarity to forest fire smoke in effect is amazing - both beautiful but one is peaceful, the other terrifying. This latest piece is of the peaceful variety, inspired by a visit to the Enchanted Forest in the Eagle River Valley between Revelstoke and Salmon Arm while working on the Trans-Canada 150 project. I hope you like it! |
