Painting Live in Galerie 203 Ave. Greene June 9-10

I'll be back in Montreal this Friday and Saturday, June 9-10, painting live in Galerie 203 on Avenue Greene. Come on in to the gallery and chat with me about my painting process while I work on a view of the old Canada Malt plant from the Lachine Canal side. Around 25 of my paintings, in various styles from the last few years, will be on display, along with work by other Montreal and international artists.

You may notice that some of my work that was in the gallery last month is gone - sold to happy collectors. Galerie 203 managed to find new homes for six of my paintings recently. Thanks to Corinne and the gallery staff for making the introductions and arrangements!

See you this weekend!

This is the new Five Roses painting, just at the end of the drawing stage. Stay tuned for progress!
A big THANK YOU to all who came to my Meet the Artist afternoon at Galerie 203 on avenue Greene last Saturday! It was wonderful to meet new art lovers and to catch up with old friends.

The exhibition will remain up at the gallery through the end of May if you couldn't come on Saturday, or if you would like another look. Tell Corinne I sent you.

Meanwhile, it's back to the studio for me. I'm still fascinated by the Five Roses building and sign, so I'm giving it another go. This time it's going to be an extra big version, on a 60 x 40 inch canvas. I have it mostly drawn out and am itching to get the brushes wet!

Enjoy the lovely weather and the spring flowers.

The days are getting longer, some of them are getting warmer, and the snow is melting. Spring must be here! I can't wait for it to fully arrive, with flowers, leaves, and COLOUR!

In the meantime, I found myself drawn back to images of Montreal's iconic Five Roses Flour building. I don't think I'll ever get tired of painting this structure - it's placement between two grey, mostly derelict industrial hulks, the massive neon sign, and it's location in the old port all pull at me. This one is a little smaller than the previous paintings - let me know what you think!

My sister and brother-in-law have ridden and trained horses for years. She taught me to ride before when I was so young I can't  remember how old I was at the time. They particularly like Appaloosas, a magnificent breed with a huge variety of colouration and spotted coats. This beauty was one of theirs until recently. I feel lucky I had the opportunity to know him and experience his gentle personality. Here he's in the paddock, patiently waiting for his rider. I imagine he's waiting for someone equally beautiful as he is, so I've titled this "Waiting for Godiva". It's a bit of a departure from my recent urban landscapes, but variety is the spice of life, right?

Galerie203 Montreal is expanding to a new gallery space on Avenue Greene in the Westmount neighbourhood of Montreal. The doors opened last week, and owner Corinne Asseraf is planning a celebratory Meet the Artists event over the weekend of April 22. Do stop by this wonderful new space and say hello to Corinne. I'll be at the event and would love to say hello to all my Montreal friends there. The original gallery is still on Notre Dame West, so you can still see lots of art there, too. And "Penthouse Reno", acrylic on canvas, 48x40", 2022 was a Finalist. This is a monthly international online competition that attracts a very high level of artists. Hang in there - spring is coming soon.
