I'm liking this exploration of flowers. For some reason I was never very attracted to them as subjects for painting before, although I've always liked them in the garden and on the table. I'm intrigued by their shapes, colours and how they can be distributed compositionally in the vase. I'm also enjoying the loose style that seems to fit these subjects - the basic shapes and colours of these imagined, prototypical blooms that appeal to me. It's more the impression of the centrepiece as I walk by, not a detailed examination of the subject. My recent landscapes have the same feel of expression rather than reality. Solo show The dates for my solo show in Montreal have been finalized - Save a date from May 22-June 5. I'll post the announcement separately. |
