As the frost started to creep up my windows, I got back to work on this gorgeously warm bougainvillea and its shadows on the stucco wall behind. This is my second start on this image - I didn't like where the first attempt was going, so I obliterated it with a fresh coat of gesso and began again. This time it feels much better. One of the many wonderful things about living in the tropics was the profusion of bougainvillea everywhere, blooming all year round. For me it's a symbol of warmth and burgeoning life, growing over walls, bridges, roofs, and anything else it encounters. A far cry from the Montreal winter of icy windows and slippery sidewalks! |
