Happy June! The leaves are out, the flowers are blooming, and vaccinations are progressing. Soon I hope we'll be able to meet and go to exhibitions again. I finally completed a piece commenting on this past year. "Lunch Atop a Skyscraper 2020" is my tongue-in-cheek response to all we've been going through. Based on Charles Ebbett's 1932 photo from the RCA building site in New York, I made all the workers follow stay-at-home orders. This piece was selected as a feature painting in Issue 15 of Artist Talk magazine in the UK, an issue dedicated to artists' responses to the pandemic. It was one of the few pieces given an entire 2-page spread out of over 400 works published. You can see the entire issue on their website. My painting is available at Galerie 203 Montreal, which is able to welcome visitors again! Just off the easel yesterday is "Mill St.", another in my Toronto series. "Streetcar" is now at Arta Gallery in the Distillery District, as part of their Local Charm exhibition. The show runs June 17-July 1. Another date to put on the calendar is the American Artists' Professional League online Studio Auction from July 8-18. "Montreal Staircase" is my entry among the 50 other works by AAPL members. Have a great month, and I hope we'll be able to meet soon at a gallery or cafe. |
