After a week of drawing in the scene, I'm putting on the first layer of colour! I love this stage, when all that detailed work pays off and the painting begins to take on some life. This is the biggest of the Prague rooftops series so far, at 40" x 60". Having such a large area to work in is freeing, letting me work with the paint more comfortably instead of trying to squeeze all these brushstrokes into a small frame. I still tend to use small brushes, though. They help me retain control of the paint, even if I need a lot more strokes to fill up the area. In other news, I've joined the Organization of Kingston Women Artists, a dynamic group of artists working in a very wide range of media that I know I'll enjoy sharing and interacting with. Check out the amazing work they do on the members page. I'm not on the list yet, but will be soon! |
