I finished these two pieces recently while staying home for the past month, along with most of the population. It's nice to be close to the studio more, but my mind has been preoccupied with virus news and it's been hard to concentrate on painting. Pond II is a larger version of a piece from the Trans-Canada 150 project. As with the first version, I mixed paint into modeling paste and used a palette knife to give the weeds some texture, glossed over the water areas to produce a reflective surface, and finished off the lily pads with regular acrylics. I like the depth and reflections that I managed to build into the water. The other piece is one I'd been working on since the beginning of March. It was a bit of a struggle, and I changed the composition a few times until I was happy with it. Things got a bit stormy with the COVID news and figuring out how to teach on line from home, and that's reflected in the waves breaking on the rocks. |
Stay safe, everyone.
